What to Bring

Rods… should be 8 ½  - 10 foot, fast action,  for line weights 5 to 6.  In the hands of experienced casters, 3 and 4 weight rods are fine on calm days, but when the wind kicks up, you’ll want more rod.  For streamer fishing on windy days, I prefer a 7 weight.   We  supply you with rods for the day at no charge if needed!

Reels… should be reliable and capable of holding at least 50 yards of backing.  Large arbor reels are great for picking up line after a long run by a big Missouri Rainbow!  Reels should be loaded with a floating line, preferably weight forward.  Dirty, cracked old lines are easy to replace, and will make your trip much more enjoyable!  We use lines by  AIRFLO.

Wading Gear… breathable chest waders are best.  Bring plenty of poly-pro and fleece undergarments in case of cold weather.  During the middle of summer, shorts and wading boots are often all that’s needed.  The Missouri is very easy wading and many guides wear river sandals (SIMMS, Teva or similar) while wet wading.  We supply breathable waders if needed at no charge!

Clothing… It is important to be prepared for all kinds of weather, from 30 degrees and snow to 90 degrees and windy (it’s possible to have both in one day).  Make sure and bring a brimmed hat and sunglasses!  Not only for sun protection, but to protect your eyes and face.  For hot weather, long sleeves are a must.  Modern lightweight fishing shirts (like those from SIMMS), are cool, comfortable and offer SPF protection equal or better than sunscreen.  A matching pair of pants or shorts are all you'll need when the weather is hot.  For cold weather, you will want several layers of synthetic undergarments, as well as a breathable rain jacket to wear over the top.  Windstopper fleece jackets (also from SIMMS) have become very popular in the spring and fall.  Throw a fleece hat and gloves in your tackle bag just in case.  Rain jackets are a must all year.

Tackle…  We provide all flies, leaders, tippets, etc.  See the sidebar for a list of flies and terminal gear for those that wish to supply their own.

Other…  Sunscreen, brimmed hat, polarized sunglasses, camera, bug repellent.
